I'm a poet and I know it/got skills and yeah I show it/sometimes over my words I may stumble/but I still remain humble/don't mistake humbleness for naivity/cus that coudn't be farther from re-al-i-ty/what more can I say??/
I just had to bless you with a lil' freestyle/showin' you a bit of my style/1,2,3 to the 4 I'm what you been waiting for/choose to ignore or embrace it's up to you/whatever your choice make sure you stay true/help out others/embrace your sisters and brothers/not just talkin' bout kin/but I also refer to your best friend/or friends whichever applies/and look really hard, to uncover the lies/love you, respect you, and others will/ and that's the deal with JA-4-REAL.
How HEALING THROUGH WORDS came to be
Well, it's really an interesting story of how myself, Lady Poet and Honest met. I was going to the usual Tuesday Night Open Mic at the Blue Nile. I went there with my good friend Kash, cus she had been going there for years. I had gone before, but hadn't been back in about 6 months or so.
So, we got there and fortunately there were slots available to sign up. So, we did. And the night was going great, hearing from musicians, other spoken word artists, and oh yeah, I had my camcorder there to record the whole thing. What can I say, I'm a ham, and I love my cam, but also love to film.
Anyway, I saw this lady go up that I had never heard before. She commanded the stage and I instantly said to myself," I have to network with her." She did this one piece called, "Just to Inform You." The main part of her poem that got me was when she said, " Now this is not male-bashin'... this is just to inform you."
That line got me cus my poem was about maie bashing. So, I thought that since were almost back to back was brilliant it was kind of like a yin and yang thing.
After she performed, this other girl was next to go, but she was too shy to go up there at first. Well she agreed to go up if her friend went up there with her. Coincidentally, her friend was the lady that just went. She agreed, and they both went up to perform. The lady who did "Just to inform you was Lady Poet(Sheronda), and the shy girl was Honest(Neasha).
We exchanged contact info, and have been great since then. Sheronda was working on her book of poetry, and then mentioned that she wanted to have a poetry group. Neasha and I both thought it was a cool idea, so we decied to form the group. Needless to say,we've been growing since then. When we had to brainstormed our name,we came up with healingthroughwords because that's what we are all about. Whether they be our own words, or words from others that come to the group and share their poems and songs,you can be sure that the words spoken will be words to heal, reach and educate.
Writing and peroforning have been a way of therapy for me, so I knew that healing through words was exactly what I needed.
